I’m grateful to have performed at so many Halloween parties in Minnesota this month. Halloween is a busy season for a magician, but I still got to take a break, spend time with friends, and try out some new material.
The trick is called “Gotta Catch ’Em All.” I try to pluck a Pokémon card right out of the air using a trash grabber. It’s a goofy idea, which is exactly why I wanted to try it. Sometimes a new piece of magic starts with a simple question: What if I tried this?
Trying new material in front of friends is a fun way to see what gets a laugh, what surprises people, and what might be worth developing into a full routine. This one brought together a familiar Pokémon reference and an unexpected prop—and gave me a new bit to play with.
